Swatch & Review: NYC Sparkle Eye Dust - Bronze Shimmer - My Highest Self

Swatch & Review: NYC Sparkle Eye Dust – Bronze Shimmer

Only a few months ago was I introduced to the drugstore brand NYC, and started trying their products. I don’t know what took me so long since they have a big permanent display in my local Rite Aid. Their prices are similar to that of Wet n Wild, and I’ve been pretty happy with what I’ve tried so far. So I recently grabbed the NYC Sparkle Eye Dust in the new shade, Bronze Shimmer for $2.99.

NYC sparkle dust reviewThe NYC Sparkle Eye Dusts are loose pigments that come in 10 shades. NYC describes them as “high shimmering loose powder eye shadows” that “deliver luscious, shimmering color exactly where you want it!”

nyc sparkle eye dust bronze shimmer swatchBronze Shimmer is a beautiful copper toned eyeshadow with shimmer that applies extremely pigmented. However when you blend these with a brush they do tend to lose the tiniest bit of their color, but you can easily build it back up. To keep the color from fading I think it would be best to apply these with your fingers and press the color onto the lids, depending on the look you’re going for.

The one major downside I found with this product was the FALL OUT! Holy cow. The applicator is a doe-footed which apparently is a big step up from the brush they used to incorporate in the older version of this product, but it’s long and tends to pick up product on the wand itself. There doesn’t seem to be a stopper inside the tube to brush off extra product so a LOT ends up below your eye. Since this is a darker pigment, it can be difficult trying to clean up the fallout. So although it delivers luscious, shimmering color, it doesn’t always end up exaaaactly where you want it.

The shadow itself is great. I had no problems with creasing, only slight fading throughout the day. I’m in love with this shade for fall. However, I think the BEST way to get the most out of the NYC Sparkle Eye Dusts would be to depot them into jars. This would help the application process and reduce fall out so you’re not fiddling with an applicator that’s covered in product.

The NYC Sparkle Eye Dust would be a great finishing touch to any eyeshadow look to add that bit of shimmer, but also hold very well on their own. I’ve personally liked using Bronze Shimmer as an all-over eye color for lazy fall mornings.

Overall, I’m happy with this product and definitely want to go pick up some of the different shades… for $2.99 why not!?  Find NYC Sparkle Eye Dust at retailers like Rite Aid, Walgreens, Walmart and more.

Have you tried NYC Sparkle Eye Dust yet?  If so, what did you think?
