The startling facts of breast cancer: One in eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. You may remember I mentioned that my sister-in-law battled breast cancer and being a strong woman, she is now cancer-free. Early detection is truly the BEST defense against breast cancer. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the higher the survival rate. According to the National Cancer Institute, when detected during the early (localized) stage – the five year survival rate is 98 percent.
This year, the P&G Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign has partnered with The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to educate women (and the men in their lives) about the importance of early detection. We can all help save lives by spreading the message that early detection is the best defense in the fight against breast cancer. As ladies we need to create and follow an early detection plan AND encourage others to do the same. Men,, this October, decide when your “day of action” will be and encourage the ladies in your life to take action and create that early detection plan.
