Photos, Swatches, Review: Smashbox Softbox Eye Palette for Fall 2011

I’ve been experimenting with the new Smashbox Softbox Palette for Fall 2011 and have gotten myself hooked on these 6 gorgeous eyeshadows!  This item from the Girls on Film collection has all of my love so far :).  There are 2 matte shades and the others are shimmers, which are just my style.

Top Row:  Fizz, Pebble, Minx

Bottom Row:  Vanilla, Ignite Sienna

Fizz – shimmery champagne

Pebble – light matte brown

Minx – shimmery plum

Vanilla – matte pale vanilla

Ignite – shimmery peachy copper

Sienna – shimmery deep bronze

I found all 6 of these shadows to be very soft and only needed to just touch my brush into each to pick up plenty of product.  I’ve tried a couple of looks with this palette so far and you could probably do a billion more, these shades are so versatile.  I found them all very blendable, with the exception of Pebble (matte brown) being a bit more difficult to blend.

The look below was put together by following the Soft Cat Eye tutorial from Smashbox using the QR code on the back of the palette.  You just point your smartphone (equipped with a QR Reader app) at the QR code and the video pops up on your phone!  It’s only about 3 minutes long and shows you how to complete two different looks.  You can also peel back the label and see instructions on those two looks, as well.  For me, this was a HUGE plus as I am a big fan of using video tutorials to help me put together a look.

This next look was put together using Fizz, Pebble, Minx on the lid and lashlines.  I also used Vanilla as a browbone highlight.

With the second look I got to use more of Fizz and Minx, two of the amazing shimmers.  Did I mention I love shimmers? 🙂  I think (done right) they just make the eyes stand out so well.  Overall, this palette comes with everything you need:  plenty of wearable shimmers in great colors, a matte brown for the crease, and a matte vanilla for the browbone.  What else is there really for all the basic looks?  As always, I find palettes to be an excellent value and you can build a great collection of colors.  They even save space and are great for traveling.

You can find the Smashbox Softbox Palette ($42) from the Girls on Film Collection at Smashbox.com, Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Beauty.com, and select Macy’s.  I would highly recommend this palette for your makeup collection, ladies!
