Review: Aveda Botanical Kinetics Skincare - My Highest Self

Review: Aveda Botanical Kinetics Skincare

Aveda Skin CareAbout a month ago, I was testing a couple of different skincare products and experienced a bad breakout.  I can’t be sure what caused it but I was eager to get rid of the sudden rash of pimples all along my jawline and some other spots.  Luckily, I received a few Aveda products and they were next in line for review!

These particular Aveda Botanical Kinetics products are formulated for oily skin, but there is also a Botanical Kinetics line for dry/normal skin.  I have used the Purifying Gel Cleanser, Exfoliant, and Hydrating Lotion for about 3 weeks (once or twice daily) with wonderful results.  Within a couple of days, my skin was recovering from a bad breakout and has kept any new breakouts from occurring!

The Purifying Gel Cleanser ($21) is in a large 5 fl oz bottle with a pump that is very conservative in the amount of product it pumps out.  I use 2 or 3 pumps of the product to get just the right amount of cleanser for my face (and it’s still a small amount).  The cleanser is clear in color and of a thin consistency and produces a frothy little lather that has a refreshing feel to the face.  It has a lavender and rosemary scent that I just adore.  This is a gentle cleanser that still works to cleanse well and not leave the skin dry or tight afterwards.  Some ingredients I’m happy about in this lotion: Lavender Extract, Rosemary Leaf Powder, Chamomile Extract, and Sunflower Seed Oil.

The Exfoliant ($20) is in a large 5 fl oz bottle with an open top so you have to be a bit careful of dispensing the product.  I was always afraid I was going to tip the bottle over and spill the entire contents!  I used a cotton pad to dispense product in 3 small spots and then wiped the cotton pad all over the face and neck.  This product sets out to “refine and clarify the skin” by removing any left over dirt or makeup after cleansing.  I loved this step, since I like my toner to have that “zing” where you know it’s working by the bit of tingle on your face and the dirt on your cotton pad.  The Exfoliant did both for me!  I think the combination of Witch Hazel and Salicylic Acid in this one is a great combo for my oily skin, but this works for all skin types.

The Hydrating Lotion is in a large 5 fl oz bottle ($33), also with a pump that is very conservative in the amount of product it pumps out.  I use 3 pumps to get the right amount of lotion for my face and it’s still a very small amount.   It has the same lavender and rosemary scent as the Hydrating Gel Cleanser. The lotion is white and is of a super thin consistency.  I venture to say that this is the thinnest consistency of lotion that I have ever used on my face!  It sinks into and dries on the skin almost instantly.  I have been amazed at how such a thin lotion could hydrate so perfectly, always having a cooling effect, never greasy.  Some ingredients I’m happy about in this lotion: Aloe Leaf, Lavender Extract, Rosemary Extract, Chamomile Extract, and Olive Oil.

Overall, these three product together have cleared up a major breakout and prevented any new breakouts.  Another MAJOR love is that after 3 weeks of use, I have barely made a dent in any of these products since you have to use so little!  I still have 90% of both the Cleanser and Lotion and about 75% of the Exfoliant left.  In my opinion, while the price of these products may be on the high side, the fact that they will last so long makes these a good value for high quality products.  I love that my pores look more clear,  any redness has been reduced, and the texture of my skin is soft and smooth.  The Botanical Kinetics line for oily skin seems to have the perfect combination of ingredients to keep my skin happy!
