Review: Gillette Venus & Olay Razor from Influenster - My Highest Self

Review: Gillette Venus & Olay Razor from Influenster

As of late, the ladies’ razor category has been stepping up their game.  While I’m known to use a men’s razor because they have proven to be better on all fronts, I’ll admit I was pretty interested in testing out Gillette’s new Venus & Olay Razor for the ladies.

The Gillette Venus & Olay razor (from my Influenster Love VoxBox) comes with 1 razor, 1 cartridge and 1 shower hook.  Did you notice on the package it says “Love It or 2X Money Back“?  Save your receipt and if you don’t like it you can call them and get TWO TIMES your money back!

The unique part about this razor is that it has two Olay Moisture Bars on the cartridge and they claim there is “no need for separate shave cream”.

First, I think Olay is a trusted brand and was happy to see a collaboration with Gillette.  Second, I love that not only the razor head is flexible, the two moisture bars are both extremely flexible.  This creates excellent maneuverability while shaving around the ankle bones, knees, and anywhere else you need your razor to be flexible.

I first used the Gillette Venus & Olay razor to shave my underarms and did not use (nor need) separate shave cream for that.  The moisture bars created a nice froth and a clean shave.

In my next shower, I used this razor to shave both my legs.  Normally, I will shave my lower legs one day and upper legs the next.  Don’t judge, our water gets cold so fast it leaves little time for all that shaving!  For this test I braved the cold water and shaved both legs (upper and lower) in one go.  I can tell you for the first leg, it was all good.  The moisture bars were working their magic and providing a smooth shave.  By the time I hit that second leg, the moisture bars had gotten considerably smaller and I could FEEL the difference.  My legs were getting nicked!  Looking back, I think you would need to stand out of the stream of the shower while using this razor.  That shower stream was eating up those moisture bars like nobody’s business!  I do think this is a good razor under the right circumstances.  It will not last if you are using this under the stream of water.

I used the Gillette Venus & Olay razor once more after that to shave my underarms.  You can see what the moisture bars look like after these 3 uses:

Overall, I actually would purchase the Gillette Venus & Olay razor in the future and would recommend it to others.  I really love the flexible razor head & flexible moisture bars.  I think the first time you use the razor you can use it without a separate shave cream.  If you stay out of the stream of water in the shower while shaving, the moisture bars will do their magic.  In my opinion, the second time you use this, you will probably need a separate shave cream, I just don’t think the moisture bars will work that well the second time around.

A refillable Venus & Olay with one replacement cartridge sells for $8.99-$10.99.  Packages of three replacement cartridges are available for about $14.99 – $19.49.  You can find these at food, drug, convenience and mass merchandise stores throughout the U.S.

That’s my two cents on the Gillette Venus & Olay razor, have you seen this in stores yet?  If so, have you tried it yet?  Tell me all your feelings about shaving, razors, whatever because I’m dying to hear from you!

Whoa, girl!! Those melted right away! I keep my back to the water stream while I’m shaving — I’ve used mine quite a few times now and the moisture bars are still a lot larger than yours, with no need for shaving cream. I never would have thought to consider how shaving IN the stream would affect the moisture bars!! Thanks for another great review and perspective! 🙂
