Now, if you happened to read this post you might remember that I mentioned that a men’s razor is my ONLY choice for shaving.  Over the past 10 years at least, I have definitely tried my share of the latest women’s razor as they appear on the market.  Each time, quietly going back to this razor (and now this one) each time.  For me, the women’s razors were never the BEST razor out there.  My men’s razor had four (eventually five) blades, they were close together, they had awesome moisture strips and skin guards, they were streamlined, and the razor head was small and maneuvered like a dream.  No women’s razor could compete with the smooth shave that I could get from my favorite men’s razor!

Always excited to try something new, I had the recent opportunity to try the new Schick* Hydro Silk razor and am incredibly impressed.  Please keep in mind that I have truly been UNIMPRESSED with women’s razors for more than 10 years!

The handle is ergonomically designed with a great curve that fits just right in your hand.

The Schick Hydro Silk comes with an extra cartridge and a holder for the shower.

You can see in the photo above that the Schick* Hydro Silk razor has round beads all around that provide amazing moisture for a smooth shave.  You will notice it has 5 blades placed closely together (finally!) and a little blue skin guard to prevent irritation.

For my test, I used the Schick Hydro Silk razor on my right leg and my regular men’s razor on the left.  I was sure I would notice a major difference in the shave between the two.  I was proven wrong.  What I noticed about the Schick Hydro Silk first was those water-activated moisture dots kick ass!  As I shaved, the serum was highly visible and the results were a silky smooth shave.  I never once felt that scrape of a blade that I always remembered when using a women’s razor.   The 5-blade razor is where it’s at, folks!  With the conclusion of my shaving test, both legs were equally smooth, with no nicks or cuts to be found.  No irritation on my skin and a smooth shave, what else is there, right?

I still don’t know why women’s razors were ALWAYS made with the blades spaced so far apart either.  The little rubbery, blue skin guard on the Schick Hydro Silk is another major accomplishment in my eyes.  This was feature that I always found in my men’s razor that prevented irritated skin.

Overall, I am in awe that there is now a women’s razor that pretty much has all of the features that led me to prefer a men’s razor all these years.  The Schick Hydro Silk razor has 5-blades for the closest shave, water-activated moisturizing beads all around, and a more compact shape with a razor head that maneuvers very well.  Bravo, Schick!

The Schick Hydro Silk razor for women will be available in January 2012, priced at $9.99 for the razor and $14.99 for a 4-count refill.

This is essentially the women’s version of the Hydro 5 men’s razor. Looks like they did a good job.

Yes, I still have no clue why they have always made womens razors so different, we both want a close shave without nicks and cuts! Thanks for reading 🙂
