Stepping Up My Beauty Routine with Philips Sonicare PowerUp Toothbrush

#cbias DisclosureSince nice teeth and a great smile is one one of my best qualities, I think of oral hygiene as being part of my beauty routine.  Brushing my teeth is one of those things I am diligent about, much like cleansing and moisturizing my face.  The Philips Sonicare PowerUp toothbrush  has truly enhanced the quality of clean after brushing!

Sonicare Power Up #shop Sonicare toothbrush review #shopAs a manual toothbrush user, I was intrigued by the Sonicare PowerUp, an affordable (under $20) battery powered toothbrush available at Target.  Described as “a month’s worth of brush strokes in a day”, this toothbrush had a lot to prove!  I found it at a nearby Target and embarked on a 7 day trial.  See all the photos from my shopping trip in my Google+ album.

After my very first use of the Sonicare PowerUp I felt as if I had just had a professional cleaning!  When I tell you that every tooth and even my gums felt renewed I am not exaggerating.  I have always loved the feeling of freshly brushed teeth but this toothbrush gets into all the nooks and crannies.  Think of it as a power wash for your mouth!

During my first day of use, I learned a lot about the Sonicare PowerUp.  Since I am not an experienced battery powered toothbrush user it took me a couple of tries to get the right method for using it.  It is is a little bit different than using a manual toothbrush.   If the plastic part of the brush hit my teeth while brushing, it was quite startling.  I learned after my first use just to keep my mouth mostly open while brushing.  This kept it from hitting my teeth.  The brush head is probably about half the size of my manual toothbrush and makes it very easy to maneuver.  You need very light pressure as the brush does almost all of the work! My best tip:  Put the toothpaste on the brush and brush it on your teeth once BEFORE turning it on.  I learned that if you add the toothpaste and turn it on right away, the Sonicare PowerUp is like a little earthquake and quakes the toothpaste right off!  See it in my Instagram video:

By my third day of using the Sonicare PowerUp, I felt major improvement in the works with my oral health.  My teeth, and especially in between teeth were cleaner than they have ever felt.  A great feature of this toothbrush is that it runs with auto shut-off after 2 minutes, the recommended brushing time.  I confess I have definitely NOT been brushing my teeth for a full 2 minutes all these years.

Sonicare PowerUp does it work #shop After seven days with my Sonicare PowerUp toothbrush, I have very noticeable improvement in the look and feel of my teeth and gums.  The most notable change is in my bottom teeth, which are spaced quite close together.  Normally, I need to floss my bottom teeth very well and brush to get the level of clean that I feel with the Sonicare PowerUp.  I am not suggesting this toothbrush is a replacement to flossing or that you should stop flossing.  I am saying that this toothbrush gives my teeth the feel of a good professional cleaning AND a good flossing!  My manual toothbrush never even got close to that.  At under $20, this is one fabulous addition to my beauty routine.

I am a die-hard, longtime Sonicare user. They are totally the best. I wasn’t familiar with this version. I think it would be perfect for travel since it’s battery operated. I take my plug-in Sonicare fully charged with me if I’m going to be away for a night or two, but if it’s longer or to a country that uses different type of electrical outlets than the US, I leave it at home. I got a Colgate Spinbrush, a battery powered brush, to take with me on a trip to Spain last year, but the head for so huge, it ate up my gums. Glad to know there’s a Sonicare option!!
