800Razors.com is an online store where you can purchase premium razor cartridges for women and men and pay significantly less than popular name brands. With the prize of decent razors and razor cartridges being OUTRAGEOUS, I was intrigued to say the least.
If you are a long-time reader you may know that I most frequently use mens razors because the quality is so much better. I love the 5 blades on Gillette Fusion for men. If I have to buy women’s razors, I usually choose Schick Hydro Silk.
800Razors.com offers 5 blade razor cartridges for women as well as 3 blade and 5 blade options for men. The claim is that their razors for women can be compared to the Venus brand and the razors for men compare to Gillette.
The 5 blade razor for men may look a bit like Gillette Fusion at first glance but it did not live up. The blades are not as close together and not as thin, the two things that make Gillette a great shave. The real fail in this razor is at the top there is supposed to be a lubricating strip. I did not find it lubricating at all and it’s actually a bumpy strip that feels quite annoying as you shave. I found the first time I used it the shave was fair but not a close shave and not burn-free like Gillette. Basically, I use these razors in a pinch when I am out of my favorite brand.
The 5 blade razor for women does look a bit like Venus but I’m not a regular user of Venus so I can’t compare it to that brand. I can compare it to other women’s razors and it stacks up to be OK. The moisturizing strip at the top does work on this one so that was a plus. Honestly, it looks like the same razor as the mens version just housed in a different cartridge. I use these for underarm shaving since it’s a small area and I can get more use out of these. I do not use these for shaving my legs because it is not a close enough shave and I do get nicks.
Overall, I don’t feel the 800Razors.com lives up to the claims being made. I think they will may make money from everyone wanting to give these a try. I don’t see a lot of repeat business from those of us who are die-hard Gillette users. Buy 4 pack ($9.99), 8 pack ($17.99), 16 pack ($32.99), 20 pack ($38.99) at 800Razors.com.

I always thought men and women’s razors were pretty much the same and women were just paying extra for different colors and longer handles.

Men’s razors are soooo much better!! They offer a closer shave and they’re usually anywhere between $3-$6 cheaper, at least at rite aid.

I still can’t figure out why razors for women are priced higher. I guess we are supposed to pay a premium for pretty colors??
