Here’s what I received in my August 2011 Birchbox:
***
My final thoughts on all the products (the gorgeous postcard in the photo came with the Atelier Cologne!):
Amika Obliphica Oil Treatment – This is a blend of argan and jojoba oils for your hair. All you need is a few drops in the palm, rub hands together and distribute through your damp or dry hair. This stuff smells divine, almost like yummy baked goods but not that sweet! This oil works VERY well to keep your hair soft, silky, and manageable. It makes styling your hair a breeze. It reminds me somewhat of the pequi oil that I tried a while back. I’d say it works almost as well, but smells even better, than the pequi oil treatment. I would purchase this when my sample runs out, good product!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Lifting Mascara – This is described as a volumizing mascara that acts like hairspray for your lashes, keeping them curled and perky all day. I have to say I did not experience this at all. This was like wearing any mascara and didn’t keep my lashes curled all day. Maybe I have defiant lashes? I’m not sure, but I was disappointed since I had high hopes. I know the Anastasia brand has a high reputation so this product may be the dud of the brand.
Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue – This is a high-end ($145 for 200 ml) scent and is probably the freshest, most wearable high-end scent that I have ever sampled. It has a fresh orange smell that just gets more lovely as you wear it. There are no hints of any alcohol scent (like most perfumes/colognes for women) and not grossly sweet like a lot of perfumes/colognes. If money were not an option, I would without a doubt purchase this in bulk!
Earthen InstantPeel – This is an all-natural peel that whisks away dead skin without harsh chemicals. This peel comes in single-use packets (even when you purchase the full-size). This peel is used in the shower: apply to a small area of the face, massage back and forth and FEEL the dead skin peel off! You just do a small area at a time and EarthenPeel will NOT remove anything but dead skin and debris so you don’t have to worry about doing too much! It may sound gross, but I liked that you could feel the dead skin peel off and you know it’s working. After my whole face was done, I was left with smooth and fresh skin. I would definitely purchase this product in the future, I thought it was very unique, gentle on the skin, and it does exactly what is claims.
Twistband Hair Tie – My hair is short so I did not have a need for this “hair tie” which is actually a black piece of stretchy elastic tied in a knot. No thank you.
Anastasia Line Erasing Serum – I received a a small, single-use sample packet of this serum that you dot onto your lines and wrinkles to make them less noticeable. I did use it and did “feel” that the product was on my face (there was a taut, almost tingly, feeling where the product was placed. I can’t say that I saw that it made any lines less noticeable, one-time use is just not sufficient for that type of review.
I’m still intrigued and anticipate receiving my Birchbox in the mail each month: I LOVE SURPRISES!

Oh Tina, I love those hair bands. They are the best ties for a ponytail that I’ve ever used. The don’t crimp or wreck your hair. I can understand why you’d be disappointed though. That’s how I feel everytime I get a stupid fragrance sample. Ugh, no thank you!!!! We have asthma and allergies in my house so I always feel ripped off when I get fragrance.

I know it’s funny, we each have our own thing! I don’t love the perfume samples in these either, though!! I just feel like I could make this hair bands myself, if I needed them, but I don’t with my short hair :(.
