If you’re dying to get engaged, there’s a chicken recipe that can probably get it done! What’s that you say, you haven’t heard about Engagement Chicken? The legendary recipe is included in 100 Recipes Every Woman Should Know* by Cindi Leive and the Editors of Glamour. This chicken recipe has caused a stir and a storm of engagements since its debut! It’s really no urban legend, the cookbook has a large list of couples that have gotten engaged and married after making the Engagement Chicken. It even worked for Beth Ostrosky and Howard Stern! To be fair, the recipe does sound deliciously amazing. One of my favorite parts of the cookbook is the Introduction which tells the detailed story of Engagement Chicken and its origins.
The cookbook has a cute rating system of stilettos: One stiletto = Very easy, Two Stilettos = A little more effort, Three Stilettos = Calls for some work. Recipes include everything from breakfast to seafood to meats to drinks. There are some sections on what you need to stock as kitchen basics and some suggested menus for planning your night. This would be a great book for anyone from a beginner to a seasoned cook since the recipes vary in difficulty. Even the Three Stiletto recipes don’t appear to be terribly difficult. With recipes named “Skinny Jeans Scallops” and “Just Kiss Me Garlic Bread”, this is definitely a Glamour girl’s cookbook!
I happen to be a person who needs a recipe to cook anything just because I want everything to turn out just right. I don’t feel comfortable leaving it to chance and screwing it all up so that we have to eat an underwhelming dinner. I like to have the recipe in front of me the whole step of the way to follow along. That’s just me. I envy those who can throw something together with a little pinch of this and a handful of that and actually make it taste good. Until then, I’ll just flip through my cookbook, thank you very much :).
Now, I’m not exactly breaking my neck to get engaged right now, so I didn’t surprise my honey with the Engagement Chicken this past week. I did decide to try the Pauper’s Fish Feast (Lime Tilapia) and the Thanks for Helping Me Move Michelada (Spicy Mexican Beer Cocktail). The fish is a Two Stiletto recipe and the drink is a One Stiletto… perfect! Both were very easy to make and I actually found the drink to be more work just because there was lots of lime squeezing and zesting. All that fresh lime was so worth it!
The lime tilapia may have been the freshest tasting fish recipe I have ever made. All of the flavor came from the cilantro lime butter in the recipe and the end result was amazing! The Michelada was a mixture of Mexican beer, lime juice and a few other tasty additives. It turned out to be a spicy but very refreshing and delicious drink that went well with the fish.
I’m pretty happy with this girly-girl cookbook and it’s recipes, I know I will put it to good use. The next recipe on my list is the Pizza with Bacon, Rosemary, and Goat Cheese, sounds yummy! Hey, maybe one day I’ll give that Engagement Chicken a try ;). I’ll keep you posted!
Do you have a favorite cookbook? Would YOU try the Engagement Chicken?
Well i’m already engaged so the chicken’s probably no good for that, i like the idea f 100 recipes every woman should know though because god knows theres so many women today who don’t know how to cook…or maybe thats me.
