During my latest trip to Rite Aid, I picked up one of the newest additions to the Maybelline Color Tattoo line–the Pure Pigments eyeshadow. There aren’t very many pigment eyeshadows in drugstores right now, and I have previously owned only a couple from bareMinerals.
I was really intrigued with the claim that the pigments could last up to 24 hours, and of course had to put it to the test. I picked up the color Forest Fatale, which seemed like the perfect fall color and unlike any shade I currently own.
Forest Fatale is a mossy green with a frosty finish. It’s definitely a unique color and I personally think it’s gorgeous, especially to play up my light brown eyes. It can either be worn on the lid or the crease. The color is buildable, and it will apply a little dusty at first. For being a “pure pigment,” the shadow doesn’t apply as pigmented or dramatic as their cream eyeshadows do. I’ve been told that with some of the other colors, applying with a damp brush intensifies the finish… but do NOT try this with Forest Fatale. It will lose all of its color and turn into a runny mess.
Here’s a picture of me wearing Forest Fatale as an all over lid color.
I had a really hard time blending the Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigment when incorporating it into new makeup looks. It seemed like the color didn’t want to stay on my lids. Even with a primer, it was more prone to move around my lid or dust off rather than settle and stick to the point of application. So it was almost impossible to blend this with another color without having to go back and build the color back up again… putting your blending efforts to waste.
Although the Pure Pigment didn’t crease, it slowly faded away throughout the day… again, with a primer. I went as far as trying to set it with a setting spray, but the color was almost completely gone by the end of the day. One thing I was initially concerned about was fallout, which I’m happy to say there was a minimal amount of. However I don’t know if I’d rather have a little fallout if it meant having a longer-lasting pigment.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed by the Maybelline Color Tattoo Pure Pigments. I think they’ll do pretty well in stores because there aren’t many drugstore products like it, but I wouldn’t purchase another one. Available in drugstores, ULTA, and more for around $6.99 each. On sale at ULTA now BUY GET 1 50% OFF!
These looked so promising. I wish they lived up to the expectations!
