A big thanks to Nouveau Cheap for the advance notice that Maybelline was debuting a brand new 5 color eyeshadow palette called Color Explosion. I was on the lookout for these at stores ever since! I own a few of the EyeStudio palettes with 4 shades and really love them, everything from the texture to the pigmentation. The EyeStudio shadows are by far some of my favorite shadows. The complete eye looks with these palettes are so “wow” every time! The price for the Color Explosion was about $9.00 at Wal-Mart and price varies with each store, I’m sure. I remember seeing the regular price of EyeStudio palettes at Walgreens for $10.00 and then $6.00 at another store the same week. I can never figure it out.
Of course, all 5 colors are beautifully textured, soft and silky. The lightest color is super light and fairly hard to get a good swatch on that one. The sparkle-icious color is really just fine silver glitter with no eye shadow color at all. I’m under the impression this is supposed to be a top-coat to the other colors. I’ll have to be careful with this one, since the glitter does have some traveling tendencies. I will have to try hard not to look like a disco ball with this one!

For fun, here’s a look at the Maybelline EyeStudio 4 Color Palette – Purple Icon:

Not a whole lot of similarities in the colors of these two Maybelline palettes, in my opinion. Quite a few variations on purple in both sets. Overall, I’m sure I will be buying more of the Color Explosion shadows but I WILL NOT be paying full price in the future. I will definitely wait for a B1G1 sale to purchase any more of these!
What do you think of Maybelline Color Explosion? Will you be picking up Amethyst Ablazed or any of the other shadows?
