Today, I have a great gift idea for the beauty/skincare obsessed. The PMD Personal Microderm is an at-home micro-dermabrasion system that comes with the PMD tool and 7 exfoliating discs for face and body (1 white disc for ultra-sensitive skin/training, 2 gray for very sensitive skin, 2 blue for sensitive skin, 2 green for medium strength abrassion).
The PMD removes dead skin cells with its spinning discs covered with aluminum oxide crystals. It uses suction to draw dead cells away and leave skin more vibrant. An instructional video is included and IS A MUST to watch before doing anything like this at home.
There are small discs for the face and larger discs that can be used on the body (elbows, hands, feet or wherever you would like to smooth uneven skin texture). The disc tip spins (sort of like a mini-sander!) and the vacuum and guard action draws your skin in to be polished.
After watching the instructional video, I washed and dried my face, plugged the PMD into the outlet, attached the small white disc, and got started. It’s pretty easy to use, you just pull skin taut and glide the PMD upward across skin. It is advised to use the white disc to start and test it out behind the neck or hand to see how sensitive your skin is. After the test I used the blue disc and did not experience any pain or irritation, and it feels similar similar to the sensation of using an intense scrub.
Afterwards, my face had a bit of redness, which seems pretty standard. I splashed water on my face to remove any remaining dead skin and then used a toner and moisturizer to hydrate. Micro-dermabrasion really should help those facial creams work even better. It’s recommended to wait 6-7 days between treatments and you should never feel any pain when using this device. If you do feel pain you are pressing too hard or using the device incorrectly. Always consult the instructions/manual/DVD if in doubt.
With my skin being typically, oily and acne-prone the PMD is great for me to use once a week or every two weeks to keep my skin cells renewing and my skin glowing.
My skin has been feeling quite fresh and renewed, especially about 2 days after my first treatment. I’m quite happy with the PMD and feel like it’s a very nice value since the PMD is $159, and one micro-dermabrasion treatment at a salon in the Chicago area is $140 and up. You can use this at-home and buy the replacement disks as needed and save a bunch of money.

Have you tried at-home microdermabrasion yet?
I’ve been using a PMD unit for years and I love how easy it is to use and how gentle it is on my skin. These units are great for anyone who wants to even their skin tone.
I like that these have an option for sensitive skin. That’s definitely a plus.

I’ve heard about these once before. Great information and it sounds like it will be a useful beauty tool. I have flairs of psoriatic arthritis with sometimes causes flairs on my face.

Wow, so interesting! I’ve always been intrigued by micro-dermabrasion! I have the same skin type as you and I feel like this would so benefit my skin regimen! Thanks for the review & info!
i’ve heard that mirco dermabrasion isn’t good for acne prone skin (which mine is) because it can cause irritation. i stick to gentle clarasonic to get rid of dead skin.
I really want to try one of these.
