Review: Aero Minerale Makeup Mist Foundation & Primer - My Highest Self

Review: Aero Minerale Makeup Mist Foundation & Primer

Since I have now had the chance to use the Aero Minerale* Makeup Mist Foundation & Primer a number of times, I feel comfortable giving my thoughts and a couple of tips on this airbrush-type of foundation and primer.

The first thing I learned is that you most definitely need to cover up all of your hair before attempting application.  These products are in an aerosol can and will get all over your hair if it’s not tucked away.  I did use the headwrap from Aero Minerale* (pictured below) but I have a big head (seriously) and this thing just didn’t cut it!  It just wasn’t wide enough or substantial enough to hold my hair out of the way.  It is thin so it basically just started rolling up on me.

above: Aero Minerale headwrap and puff

The best thing to do:  Put on the headwrap or a head band of your own, then take a towel and wrap it around your head at your hairline, holding it taut at the back of your neck before spraying.  That worked great for me.

Then, I sprayed on one layer of the primer and used the puff to just “press and dab” the product onto my skin.  My skin had a pale (white?) look to it after the primer.  Not too worried but it was amusing to look at!  These products have a heavy chemical scent but it does not linger at all so I can deal.

Next, I sprayed on one layer of the foundation.  I must tell you that my first go-around with this was not good and it was all my fault.  My first instinct was to close my eyes and scrunch up my face when I started spraying.  The result of THAT was crazy!  The makeup mist just hit all the wrinkles and I looked like I aged myself 10 years.

Moral of that story:  Keep your eyes closed and your face relaxed, spray a light layer while holding the can about 8-10 inches from your face.  OH!  I recommend covering your lips when applying these, too.  You could probably put some Vaseline on your lips and then wipe it away when you’re done.  It took me a couple of tries to get the right groove on the application process.  If you apply this foundation correctly, I think you might really like your results!

After the first application of the foundation in Buff, I did the “press and dab” with the puff to set the product nicely.  Then I did a light second layer of foundation for a little more coverage, doing the “press and dab” again.  These products dried to have a powder-like finish on me.

Now, I am 36 and have those pesky fine lines around my eyes and mouth, as well as some deeper wrinkles on my forehead.  That being said, I enjoyed the result of this primer and foundation from afar.  Meaning, when I looked in the mirror and didn’t get too close, my face had a very finished look with an interesting sheen (not too shiny, not sparkly).  When I did a close-up look, it’s not my favorite finish on a foundation for my skin type.  This is only because up-close you can see that it did settle into my fine lines.  These products acted like a powder foundation for me, where my oily skin was showing up after about 6 hours.

Some things I loved:  These products have a completely lightweight feel where I actually forgot I was wearing foundation.  Now that’s something I don’t say often.  The application process takes zero time (at least that’s what it seems like!).  It truly is easy as 1-2-3.

I did also try using my own Smashbox primer with the Aero Minerale Foundation.  I didn’t care for the result of that.  It completely changes that lightweight feeling.  The two Aero Minerale products work really well together.

Overall, I will certainly use Aero Minerale Makeup Mist Primer and Foundation again, they just didn’t become my favorite products.  For me, these will be my go-to products when I’m pressed for time or when I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing makeup.  I think these products would be outstanding on younger skin without some of the lines that I have.  They are so lightweight on the skin and the absolute least time-consuming foundation routine around, in my opinion.

You can now find Aero Minerale* at over 350 Ulta locations (call your local store to be sure), priced at $14.99 for each 1.5 oz. can.  I do not see these online at Ulta.com yet, you can also visit AeroMinerale.com for additional information.

What do you think about the airbrush type of foundation routine? Is it something you think you might try?  What are some of your current favorite foundations?  Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

This is one of my very favorite foundations. I use less than you do though. If I spray it then I only spray once. That’s enough. A few seconds in a zig-zag motion works. But my preferred way of application is to use the Beauty Blender sponge. I shake the can over and over and over. It needs to be really well blended. Then I spray it on the back of my hand or on a stainless palette. I pick it up with a very lightly dampened Beauty Blender sponge and bounce that on my face. If I need to I might use the the puff but I almost never have to.
I know it’s meant to be sprayed on your face but I really do prefer it with the BB sponge instead. I’m on my second can of it.

Hi Marcia! Thanks so much for letting me know about the Beauty Blender method, I just may pick one up to give it a try. I know it’s a good product and it had to be all about getting the right application down. I just can’t get over how quick it is to use. Wish me luck!

you know, I tried the Dior Airflash and hated it. Tried it again and now I love it. They say apply in a Z pattern, which they do at a makeover, disregarding hair and clothing. But then they spray on the foundation brush they have just for that product and quickly even it all out. Used on the brush, I really like it. But the Z is stupid and doesn’t cover. And it’s $60 so it’s rediculous for a foundation…and yet…I’m hooked now. But i do worry about spraying it all over the place so the idea of hair covering seems genious. And you’re not alone in the big headed department. Big heads unite!!!

Haaaa! Big heads unite! But seriously, before I figured out I needed to cover ALL of my hair I turned it gray with the spray! Between my sprayed gray hair and my scrunched up face I was a mess the first go-around. I would need all kinds of convincing to spend $60 for a foundation but your skin always looks radiant in photos so it must be worth it!!

Thank you, Tina. 99.5% of my photos are taken with Mac Mineralized Cream foundation. :-0 Maybe I shouldn’t change!! You’re funny! Grey and scrunchy…run away! run away!

Maybe the chemical smell is due to the propellants in the aerosol cans? Glad to hear the smell doesn’t last long! 🙂

Sounds very interesting; I would love to try something like this. Good review, Tina!
