Last weekend, while perusing a Sally Beauty Supply, I stumbled upon the Dark Shadows Collection from Orly! One shade in particular caught my eye but I figured why not get the 4 piece collection since there was a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale. I picked up a couple of neons for my two free, so look for those swatches soon!
This collection from Orly is inspired by the Tim Burton movie, Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp (naturally) and Michelle Pfeiffer. I’m sure this movie will do well in the box office, I know I want to see it!
First is Decades of Dysfunction, which I didn’t think I would like at all but really loved! It has this pretty blush tint to it and looks lovely, in my opinion. I used 3 coats since this one is a thin formula but it applied well.
Decades of Dysfunction
Next, is Grave Mistake, which truly turned out to be a deep, blood red and very vampire-like! This is not normally a color I would reach for but it looks OK on me, besides the fact that my camera kept making the skin around my nails look like it was tinted red! This is just 2 coats, nice formula, great coverage.

Third, we have Buried Alive, which is a gorgeous brown polish with a complex look. This one reminds me of the dead leaves you might see covering acemetary and is appropriately named! In these photos, I used just 2 coats for great coverage and loved the formula on this one. It applied very well.
Just because Buried Alive is one of my favorites, here’s another photo:
My most favorite, the one that caught my eye at Sally’s, is Mysterious Curse. This one is all purply/blue and gloriously beautiful! I used 2 coats for these photos and the formula was just right but the brush on this one was a total mess! I will definitely be exchanging this one for a bottle with a nice brush.
Yep, I love this one the best so here’s a third photo:
What do you think of the Dark Shadows Collection? Will you be searching for any of these colors? Will you see the Dark Shadows movie? Leave a comment, I love to hear from you!
These colors are so nice! I love the blue one! I‘ll watch this movie, i love Tim Burton, and, of course, the beautiful Johnny Depp 🙂
Ahhh yes, the beautiful Johnny Depp :).
OMG! I was waiting to post on this after I saw the movie. I just could not resist taking a peak at your post!! Great looking nails, Tina. I agree with you, my favorite is Mysterious Curse. Thank you so much for letting me see what the colors look like. xo
Thank you, thank you! I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of the movie :).
I got Mysterious Curse today. I might have picked up others but I’m scarred for life from seeing the soap opera Dark Shadows as a little kid. I’m still not over it, lol. So I just got this one. It’s beautiful.
Ha, this made me giggle a little but don’t worry I’m not laughing AT you, just WITH you :). I wore Mysterious Curse for quite a few days, loved it!
Wow, I wasn’t that excited about this collection but now that I see the swatches I might have to get some of them. I really like Decades. Mysterious and Buried are also nice. They all look great on you.
Thanks so much for the compliment, you’ll have to let me know if you decide to get any of these…but I will probably see it in a blog post if you do!! 🙂
Mysterious Curse is my favorite out of the 4! Ahhh, by still my heart – Johnny Depp! And I love Tim Burton movies as well. Hubs & I are planning to sneak in a matinee showing of Dark Shadows next week!
Hey Kristi! I also swoon over Johnny Depp in most movies but never caught the Pirates of the Caribbean bug, did you? You’ll have to let me know what you think of Dark Shadows after you see it!
i wasn’t really happy with this set of polishes… orly dropped the ball on this one. two of them are repromoted under different names (i think it’s prelude to a kiss for decades of dysfunction and i know royal velvet is a dead on match for mysterious curse) and they actually had the nerve to release this the same month they put royal velvet in their core line. the only one with any real value is buried alive. really nice swatches though, and sorry if this is weird, but i really like the length of your nails. i read a lot of nail blogs and the nails on some of them are so long it’s just unreal. it’s nice to know what a polish looks like on nails that are similar to mine. 🙂
Hi Kate! Thanks so much for the comment, I had to Google Royal Velvet and of course you are right. I also found that Pure Porcelain is exactly like Decades of Dysfunction, too! I don’t have any of those shades so these are new to me. I would be bummed, too if I had dupes of these already. Thanks for the compliments on the swatches and my nails, I appreciate that so much! Not weird at all :).
These look so good, especially that blue, it looks dark yet glowy. I like the first one too.
Hi Krystal! Yes, loving both of those, too. Let me know if you decide to pick up any of these!
these are all great but i sepcially love Decades of Dysfunction because it’s nude but not pink based!
Hi Devorah! Glad you like these, I was very surprised that I also loved Decades since I really never wear anything like that!
I have been very into colors the past few years-dark in the fall/winter and bright in the spring/summer, but sometimes a gal needs a neutral, like for a classy wedding or something so i have been on the lookout for something like that lately!
Oh my gosh Tina I was just looking at this set online yesterday! I am flying down to Vegas next week to go to the premier of Dark Shadows with my cousin. I like each color so I am going to purchase this set for myself and one as a gift for my cousin! Thanks so much for the review.
WHAT??? That is amazing, you are so lucky! You need to take lots of pictures and post a blog about that one, I’d love to see those photos. Yes, I just could not resist as on this little 4 piece collection, still wearing Mysterious Curse!
Ha Ha I should explain in more detail we are not going to the Hollywood premiere I wish we could. We will be in Vegas but it will be fun! 🙂
These colors are Fabulous! I love Tim Burton Movies, and I love Johnny Depp, but I am a bit skeptical to see this one I have to say, I feel like maybe its the music choices they chose for the Movie commercials made it seem a little cheesy! I hate to think of Tim Burton as cheesy! So I probably will end up seeing it 🙂
Hey Amanda! I do love Tim Burton movies too, I think Edward Scissorhands is my all-time favorite and from the previews this character reminds me of that. I know what you mean about cheesy though, before I saw the previews I thought this might be a darker-type movie instead of a comedy. Ah well!
I did too, from reading the reviews while they were making it, it sounded more like a drama maybe and when I saw the previews it was a comedy, ah well is right, like I said I will most likely still be seeing it 🙂
