Review: Peter Thomas Roth Acne Buster Kit - My Highest Self

Review: Peter Thomas Roth Acne Buster Kit

Anytime I get the chance, I’m going to let you all know that I love value sets, whether it be cosmetics or skincare.  They just make so much sense to me.  They are inexpensive and are a huge help in finding what works for a larger-sized purchase.

The Peter Thomas Roth* Acne Buster Kit is an excellent value at $35.00 and includes five products for keeping your skin free of breakouts.  I have been using this kit for just over 4 weeks and, judging by the amount of product I have left, this kit could last me almost 2 months.  Here’s all the details on each product:

Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Acne Wash – This is the gel-type cleanser and is oil-free, dye-free, fragrance-free, and alcohol-free.  I found this cleanser to be very gentle and never drying or irritating.  The cleanser does lather a bit, which is always nice.  I did not experience any redness and it kept my skin clear of breakouts and gave me a smooth complexion.  I used this cleanser once to twice daily.

Blemish Buffing Beads – This super gentle scrub is my favorite product of the bunch!  First, the citrus scent (grapefruit?) just blows you away like cracking open a fresh fruit.  Second, the little rounded jojoba beads are excellent for exfoliating, they feel amazing, and rinse away easily.  I’ve used scrubs that have those harsh bits (like apricot seeds, walnut shells) and they can be irritating and I find them A PAIN to rinse off.  The Blemish Buffing Beads are a dream.  I can’t say enough good things about this scrub that combines salicylic and glycolic acid complex to  treat and control clogged pores.  I used the Blemish Buffing Beads about twice a week (in place of the wash) because I loved it so much.

AHA/BHA Clearing Gel – This deep pore clearing gel is also oil-free and fragrance-free and contains maximum strength beta hydroxy acid and potent alpha hydroxy acid.  This gel promotes healthy cell turnover, clears blemishes, and refines pores.  I used this after washing my face and applied on my acne-prone areas.  This gel is a great weapon against pimples and was not over-drying or irritating.

Acne Spot and Area Treatment – If the clearing gel is a great weapon against pimples, then this treatment is the BIG GUNS!  It’s a non-drying spot treatment with 5% sulfur and 4% glycolic acid complex to put a stop to breakouts.  If you have never used any treatment with sulfur in it, may I warn you:  it is stinky…and by stinky I mean like rotten eggs.  It’s true…but the stuff works.  If you have a pimple and put this on it overnight, I can guarantee it will be 50% gone by the time you wake up.  You only have to use a tiny bit and the smell doesn’t linger anyway.  I applied a thin layer directly onto any pimple that tried to show up.  You can apply up to 3 times daily, if needed.

Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel – I felt like this was the only dud in the whole bunch.  I don’t know if it was defective or what but every time I would try to squeeze product out of the little tube it would shoot out like confetti.  It seemed like the product had dried out.  It’s supposed to be an oil-free, fragrance-free pore minimizer to provide you with a matte finished face.  I couldn’t tell you if it works because I couldn’t get enough out to put it to proper use!

Overall, this was a great way for me to try five products from Peter Thomas Roth*.  I would definitely purchase the full-size version of the Blemish Buffing Beads because it was my favorite and I don’t own anything similar to it already.

You can find the Acne Buster Kit online for $38.00, in my opinion it’s a steal!
