How to Make Celebrations Memorable - My Highest Self

How to Make Celebrations Memorable

Some of the best memories can be from childhood. So, whether you’re planning for Christmas or you’re celebrating your child’s birthday, you’ll want to make it memorable for all the right reasons. Here are some suggestions on how you can achieve this.

Getting the right gift

For most of us, it’s easy to feel out of touch with our children and the games or toys they want. They can be dramatically different from what we had as children. With sites such as Wicked Uncle, offering helpful gift guides, you can keep up to date and buy the best gifts for the children in your life. For example, if you’re gift buying for a ten-year-old boy, he might like Maxx Spy Night Vision Glasses or the Edible Chemistry Kit.

Your chosen gift doesn’t have to be expensive to be memorable. It just has to catch the recipient’s imagination. Pretending to be a spy, or carrying out fun chemistry experiments which can be eaten, can inspire great memories for years afterward.

Food and decorations

Picking out fun food and decorations is something the whole family can get involved in. Each person might have activities they prefer, but it’s fun to get everyone to participate in some way. This could be anything from getting the children to make food suggestions, helping with cooking or baking (under supervision), picking out their favorite decorations, or making their own. The great thing about making decorations is these can last and be reused if they’re stored safely away when not in use. Then, when your children are older, these decorations will bring back fond memories for them.

Family and friends

Spending quality time with family and friends can be some of the happiest memories for people. If you’re having a party or hosting a meal, you could play fun games suitable for the whole family to join in, listen to and sing along to all your favorite songs and take lots of photos to look back on later.

If you choose to have themed parties, this means you get to dress up as different characters. These could be the characters from your favorite books, Christmas-themed fancy dress, or anything else your family and friends like. You can also use old clothes and items you would have thrown away to make costumes.

Make your own traditions

There are a lot of traditions around birthdays, Christmas, and other celebrations. By making your own traditions, you make them more memorable. That doesn’t mean you can’t stick to the existing traditions you have, but you could adapt them so they’re unique to your family.

You could have a certain movie you watch and something special to eat while watching. If it’s something you bake, that could be part of the tradition too. Or you might have a song you have to sing along to when putting up the decorations. Whatever you come up with should make everyone smile.

Creating memories and new traditions to look back on doesn’t have to cost a lot. Some of the simplest things in life can create the best memories.
