Are you ready for the new mac and cheese in town? Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese has arrived and is prepared with a simpler method than the “old way”!
We make a lot of mac and cheese around here, our kids love it! We were excited to try new Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese, Original Flavor. I’ll admit it was so strange putting the noodles, sauce mix, milk, butter, and water all together to cook. I was skeptical for sure. After about 15 minutes, it was ready to eat with no straining or mixing left to do.
What I loved about Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese was that the noodles were fluffy and premium-tasting. I also loved the easier method of prep, way more convenient. What I didn’t love was that the cheese tasted a little….well…powdery. The second thing I didn’t love was that the box is smaller in ounces (5.6 oz) than other mac and cheese brands. I’ll be interested in seeing the price points of Betty Crocker vs. other brands.
Overall, I loved the premium macaroni noodles in Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese but hope that the cheese flavor is improved. I also hope that the price is lower than other brands due to its smaller size. I would like to try the other varieties, Grilled Cheese and Cheese Pizza, they both sound interesting!

I’m not sure if Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese is in stores yet, have you seen it?
I can’t find it anywhere, now. I bought it a few times, late this summer (it suddenly appeared on the shelf with the other brands). I loved the way all of the ingredients cooked together – it came out like oven baked mac and cheese… but now, I can’t find it anywhere. It got replaced with a Betty Crocker mac and cheese that’s just a clone of the Kraft brand… where is it???

Hi Rich! There are a TON of people complaining about it on the Betty Crocker website too! http://www.bettycrocker.com/products/macandcheese/products/mac-and-cheese-original Maybe they will change it back??
My wife and I picked this up thinking how bad can you screw up mac and cheese. But I guess you can screw it up pretty bad. We got 2 boxes since all the other Betty Crocker products we get are great. However I can’t say the same thing about this one first we tried the mixing all ingredients together like directed. It was a huge disappointment and had the worst taste to it. Then hoping that making it like the Kraft brand buy mixing everything after the pasta was cooked but was let down again. I won’t buy this product again I’ll stick to buying their cakes but will leave the mac and cheese to Kraft.
I have tried both the pizza and grilled cheese versions and I like the grilled cheese version better of the two. What I liked the most was the one-step method! So I tried it with Kraft…adding a cup of milk and a cup and a quarter of water, and 4 tbl of butter. It was AWESOME!!! My new method from now on!

Hi Brynn! That’s so interesting, never thought to try this method on Kraft, love it!
I tried the pizza flavor. It was disgusting, would never buy it again. must be why the dollar store was selling them 3 for a dollar
For the original, cut back on the water, and add an additional chunk of butter and salt & Pepper. cook as directed and let sit for 5 min. tastes great. Only complaint is the cooked serving size. it’s not even enough to feed 1 person… I cook 2 boxes just to feed me. but it is only 88 cents at wallyworld. They need to put out a 15 or 16 oz sized box……
Also they now have a new flavor out. Xtra cheese….. I just made that tonight and it was good. tasted more like sharp Cheddar Cheese.
