New! Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese - My Highest Self

New! Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese

Are you ready for the new mac and cheese in town?  Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese has arrived and is prepared with a simpler method than the “old way”!

We make a lot of mac and cheese around here, our kids love it!  We were excited to try new Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese, Original Flavor.  I’ll admit it was so strange putting the noodles, sauce mix, milk, butter, and water all together to cook.  I was skeptical for sure.  After about 15 minutes, it was ready to eat with no straining or mixing left to do.

What I loved about Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese was that the noodles were fluffy and premium-tasting.  I also loved the easier method of prep, way more convenient.  What I didn’t love was that the cheese tasted a little….well…powdery.  The second thing I didn’t love was that the box is smaller in ounces (5.6 oz) than other mac and cheese brands.  I’ll be interested in seeing the price points of Betty Crocker vs. other brands.

Overall, I loved the premium macaroni noodles in Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese but hope that the cheese flavor is improved. I also hope that the price is lower than other brands due to its smaller size.  I would like to try the other varieties, Grilled Cheese and Cheese Pizza, they both sound interesting!

Disclosure:  The information and product have been provided free of charge by Betty Crocker and General Mills through MyInsite.  All opinions expressed are my own.

I’m not sure if Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese is in stores yet, have you seen it?

I started the noodles the normal way before I read the directions. I just continued cooking them and then when they were done I added 1/4 cup of milk and 4 tablespoons butter. It was awesome! I just made it again today and followed the directions and it doesn’t taste as good but it could be because this one is grilled cheese instead of original. Next we will try the cheese pizza.

I am thoroughly disgusted with your “new” Mac and Cheese boxed dinner. It ended up like mac and cheese soup — no flavor — I can’t believe anyone in their right mind would waste precious grocery allowances on such a poor product. I for one will go back to Kraft, HyVee and any other brands available.

Hi Carol, I’m wondering if you followed the instructions where you cook it all together? I know some have said they made the mistake of trying to cook it the old way and it turned to soup!! I personally loved the big fluffy noodles, but did not care for the cheese flavor. Hoping that improves!

Did you boil the noodles, drained them… then added 1 cup each of water and milk and blah, blah. if that is so, you really need to read directions. If that is not the case… I really need to know what happened, because I am sooo curious. I made one tonight for the first time and it was fine. A tad powdery tasting.

That is not what is on the box ron. The instructions are to put everything in the pot and cook it at once. It would most likely taste better if you use a traditional method like you described but this product was not developed to be cooked that way ron.

You didn’t read his comment well. Ron didn’t say to add water and milk after, he was asking if that’s what they did.

I got 3 boxes on sale and I’m curious to try it out.

I agree carol… Worst Mac and Cheese ever. I tried the Cheese Pizza first and thought it was terrible but gave it one more shot and tried the Grilled Cheese. Both were awful, the noodles were starchy and gummy and the sauce was grainy and blan.

Where have you been all my life? I can’t believe how good it is! I use to make my own in the oven and occasionally bought Kraft which eventually turned to glue. Now there is no need to make my own-you have shown what good mac and cheese is when working all day, without the time to make it. Kuddos to you! Thanx!

Hi Eve, glad to hear you like it! I don’t care for the cheese flavoring but love the noodles so I hope they improve on the cheese :).

Whoa! Did you put too much water? Not just the 1 cup water 1 cup milk.

I have not seen this in stores yet, but I’m extremely intrigued by the ‘no straining’ aspect! One less dish to wash! We’re a big fan of the “blue box” mac and cheese in this house, maybe we’ll give it a try if I find it.
